Men’s Soccer Loses in Overtime to Transylvania 2-1

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's soccer team lost a 2-1 overtime home match to Transylvania University, the defending Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) champion, on Wednesday evening at Faught Stadium.

Franklin (4-6-2, 2-2 HCAC) took a 1-0 lead on from senior Drew Hutchens (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) in the 55th minute. The goal came on passes from sophomore Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and sophomore Frank Austin Davis (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield).

The visiting Pioneers (9-3-1, 3-1 HCAC) squared the match at 1-1 on a goal from Kyle Smith. Smith scored the game-winning goal nearly four minutes into the first 10-minute overtime period.

Franklin junior Brandon Iaria (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) and Fundenberger paced the team's nine-shot offensive attack with four shots each. Transylvania held a 21-9 shot advantage in the match and had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Lucas Hill (Culver, Ind./Plymouth) made five saves in net for the Grizzlies.

Franklin returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 19 at 3:30 p.m. when it travels to Defiance College in HCAC action.
