Volleyball Continues Winning Ways in Road HCAC Victory over Earlham

Richmond, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team won its fourth straight match in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) victory over Earlham College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Wednesday evening.

The Grizzlies (11-6, 2-0 HCAC) have won nine of their last 10 matches, including the last four matches by 3-0 scores. The win is the second over Earlham this season, defeating the Quakers 3-1 on September 18 inside the Spurlock Center.

Franklin featured a balanced offensive attack with three players recording eight kills. Sophomore Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon), sophomore Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) and junior Montanea Daniels (Indianapolis, Ind./Providence Cristo Rey) each had eight kills.

Freshman Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) helped to distribute the offensive attack with a game-high 28 assists. She also added 10 digs.

Defensively, sophomore Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) had 20 digs. Wieneke was named the HCAC Defensive Player of the Week and leads the conference with 338 digs on the season.

Freshman Alex Colclazier (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) recorded nine digs.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, October 5 when it travels to Albion, Michigan for a pair of matches. The team will face St. Mary's at 2 p.m. before battling Albion College at 4 p.m.
