Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team opened Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-16) home victory over Manchester University on Saturday in the Spurlock Center.
The Grizzlies also defeated IU-Kokomo 3-0 (25-23, 30-28, 25-18) to improve to 10-6 on the season.
Against Manchester, sophomore Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) led the team's offensive attack with 13 kills. Junior Jordan Finke (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) had seven kills, while sophomore Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) added six kills.
The Grizzlies had a .355 hitting percentage in the second set behind 14 kills and only three attacking errors.
Freshman Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) recorded 26 assists and 21 digs.
In the second match of the day, Finke had a team-high 10 kills. Settle chipped in nine kills and junior Montanea Daniels (Indianapolis, Ind./Providence Cristo Rey) recorded eight kills.
Bazier had 28 assists to help distribute the offense. Wieneke had 22 digs, while Bazier recorded 15 digs defensively.
Franklin returns to action on Wednesday, October 2 at 7 p.m. when it travels to Earlham College in HCAC action from Richmond, Indiana.
