Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team remained perfect inside the Spurlock Center this season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-10) victory over Spalding University on Wednesday. The Grizzlies improved to 8-6 on the season and now have a 5-0 home record.
Franklin had a very efficient offensive performance, tallying 35 kills compared to just seven errors. The Grizzlies had a .322 hitting percentage for the match and .300-or-better efforts in all three sets.
The team used a late surge to grab a 2-0 set advantage. Freshman Alex Colclazier (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) made sure the Grizzlies kept the momentum, rattling off six straight points on serve in the early portion of the third set. Colclazier ended with five aces on the night.
Sophomore Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) led the offensive effort with 13 kills, compared to just two errors. She had a .867 hitting percentage in the match.
Freshman Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) helped distribute the attack with 28 assists. She also added nine digs defensively.
Franklin opens Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a match against Manchester University on Saturday, September 28 at 1 p.m. from the Spurlock Center. The team will also face IU-Kokomo later that day, starting at approximately 5 p.m.
