Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team won on four of the six singles courts to edge NCAA Division II opponent Saint Joseph College 5-4 on Sunday at Grizzly Park.
The Grizzlies (3-2) rallied from a 2-1 deficit in doubles action, earned straight-set singles triumph on the No. 2-5 positions.
Junior Bethany Harris (Avon, Ind./Avon) won a tiebreaker 7-5 in the first set before a 6-4 score at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Emily Roberts (Franklin, Ind./Edinburgh) recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 singles position.
Fellow sophomore Chelsea Howell (West Harrison, Ind./Franklin County) dropped only five games in picking up a straight-set triumph at No. 4 singles. Freshman Kayla Walker (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win to round out the singles winners.
The doubles tandem of freshman Alison Meyer (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) and Howell picked up an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 position.
Franklin returns to the court on Wednesday, September 25 at 6 p.m. against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in a home match at Grizzly Park.
