Women’s Tennis Improves to 2-0 in HCAC Play with Home Win over Defiance
Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's tennis team earned a 9-0 victory over Defiance College to improve to 2-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Grizzly Park. The team dropped only one game in picking up the victory.
Sophomore Melissa Sanders (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) won 6-0, 6-0 to remain undefeated at the No. 1 singles position. Junior Bethany Harris (Avon, Ind./Avon) also earned a straight-set triumph at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Emily Roberts (Franklin, Ind./Edinburgh) picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles. Other singles winners were sophomore Chelsea Howell (West Harrison, Ind./West Harrison) at the No. 4 position and freshman Kayla Walker (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) at No. 5 singles.
In doubles, the tandem of Sanders and Harris improved to 3-1 on the season with an 8-0 victory at the No. 1 position. Junior Julie Bazan (St. Louis, Mo./Villa Buchesne) and junior Becky Bonomini (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) also picked up an 8-0 triumph.
Franklin improved to 2-2 on the season. The Grizzlies return to the court on Wednesday, September 25 at 6 p.m. in a home match against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at Grizzly Park.
