Women’s Soccer Closes Out Season with Shutout Victory, Matches Season Win Mark
Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team scored three second-half goals to earn a commanding 4-0 home Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory over Anderson University in Saturday's season finale. The victory was the Grizzlies' ninth this fall, tying the school record for most wins in a season (2011).
The team ended the season with a 9-9 record and 3-6 mark in conference matches.
Senior Vanessa Benham (Needham, Ind./Franklin Community) quickly gave the hosts the lead with a goal in the sixth minute. The score was set up on a long dribble from junior Brandy Ramaj (Washington, Ind./Washington). Benham, a Capital One Academic All-District selection, leads the HCAC with 15 goals, eight assists and 38 points.
The Grizzlies took a 2-0 lead in the 52nd minute on an own goal after a corner kick. A few minutes later, junior Kayla Dragstrem (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) drilled a shot from 30 yards past the Anderson goalkeeper.
Franklin held a 16-2 shot edge and had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper Kelsie Williams (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) made one save and played all 90 minutes in the shutout victory.
