Women’s Soccer Loses Home Match to Transylvania

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 home Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) loss to Transylvania University on Tuesday evening at Faught Stadium.

The visiting Pioneers scored twice in the second half to break a 1-1 halftime tie. Anne Marie Dumaine tallied the game-winning goal in the 55th minute.

Transylvania (8-3-2, 2-1-1 HCAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on a goal from Meredith Murphy.

Franklin (8-5, 2-2 HCAC) answered on Vanessa Benham's (Needham, Ind./Franklin Community) 12th goal of the season in the 34th minute. The score was set up by junior Brandy Ramaj (Washington, Ind./Washington). Benham leads the HCAC in goals (12), assists (7) and points (31).

The Pioneers grabbed the momentum on Dumaine's goal 10 minutes into the second half. They added an insurance goal from Amy Ghibaudy with just over five minutes remaining in the contest.

Franklin junior goalkeeper Christa Hendrickson (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) made three saves in goal, including two in the second half.

Franklin returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m. when it travels to Defiance College. The Grizzlies are unbeaten in their last six road matches.
