Late Surge Propels Women’s Soccer Past Spalding 3-0
Louisville, Ky. - The Franklin College women's soccer team scored three goals in the final 10 minutes to pick up a decisive 3-0 road victory at Spalding University on Wednesday. Senior Vanessa Benham (Needham, Ind./Franklin Community) recorded two goals.
Franklin improves to 5-3 on the season and is 4-0 in road matches this fall.
Sophomore Michelle Murphy (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) tallied the first goal of the match in the 81st minute. Sophomore Marci Black (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) provided the assist on the scoring opportunity.
Later, Benham gave the visitors an insurance goal in the 86th minute on a pass from junior Hayley Kemp (Avon, Ind./Avon). Benham scored an unassisted goal in the final minute of the match to cap the scoring. She leads the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with 10 goals this season.
Kemp has provided six assists this season, including teaming with Benham on four goals.
Junior goalkeeper Christa Hendrickson (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) recorded the shutout in picking up her second win of the season.
The Grizzlies will close out the non-conference schedule with a home match against Heidelberg University on Saturday, September 28 at 3:30 p.m. at Faught Stadium.
