Women’s Soccer Falls in Season Opener

Terre Haute, Ind. - The Franklin College women's soccer team allowed three second-half goals in dropping its 2013 season-opening match to Benedictine University 3-0 during the Rose-Hulman Invitational on Friday. The match was called after 76 minutes due to lightning in the area.

Franklin returns to the pitch on Saturday, August 31 at 3 p.m. against Webster University (Missouri) at Jim Rendel Field on the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology campus.

Benedictine broke a scoreless game in the 51st minute when Allison Lambert found the back of the net. A pair of goals by Nikki Jhanji within a four-minute span helped secure the victory.

Franklin's Vanessa Benham (Needham, Ind./Franklin Community) led the team with three shots. The senior led the Grizzlies with seven goals in 2012.

Sophomore Marci Black (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and junior Brandy Ramaj (Washington, Ind./Washington) each had two shots.
