Benham’s Late Goal Lifts Women’s Soccer over Wilmington 2-1
Wilmington, Ohio - Franklin College senior Vanessa Benham (Needham, Ind./Franklin Community) scored the game-winning goal with less than four minutes remaining in a 2-1 road win over Wilmington College on Saturday evening.
The Grizzlies (4-3) rallied from an early deficit after the Quakers (5-2-1) found the back of the net in the 10th minute.
Junior Kayla Dragstrem (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) squared the match in the final three minutes of the first half. The score was her fifth goal of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Christa Hendrickson (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) made seven saves in the second half to keep Wilmington off the scoreboard.
Then, Benham scored her eighth goal of the season in the 86th minute for the game-winning goal.
The Grizzlies made effective use of their offensive opportunities, scoring their two goals on three shots in the match.
Franklin returns to the pitch on Wednesday, September 25 at 5 p.m. when it travels to Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.
