Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team seeks its sixth consecutive win when it hosts Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday, January 15 at 7:30 p.m. from the Spurlock Center.
Both teams enter the match up on winning streaks. Franklin has won five consecutive games and stands in second place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) with a 5-1 league record. Meanwhile, Rose-Hulman has recorded three straight victories and is in a three-way tie for second place at 4-2 in HCAC play.
Franklin is 7-6 on the season and is coming off a 66-50 road triumph over Anderson University on Saturday. Freshman Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) scored a career-high 21 points and did not miss a shot from the floor in the contest. The guard went 6-of-6 shooting, including 5-of-5 from behind the three-point field goal arc. DeSutter also made all four of her free throw attempts.
For the season, DeSutter ranks second on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game. She has made 29 three-point field goals and is second on the team with 48 assists.
Sophomore Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) leads the team at 11.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. She is tops in the HCAC with 39 blocks.
Junior Lindsey Dall (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) is averaging 9.5 points per outing, while classmate Nichole Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) follows closely behind at 9.3 points per contest. Freshman Mandy Fisher (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) leads the Grizzlies with 50 assists on the season.
Rose-Hulman is 6-7 on the season and is coming off a 63-57 road victory over Defiance College on Saturday. The Fightin' Engineers have held their last three opponents to 57 points in each contest – all winning efforts. The team is led by Kelsey Ploof's 9.1-point-per-game scoring average. She is also averaging 7.1 rebounds per outing.
