North Manchester, Ind. - Franklin College freshman Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) had a career-high 19 points and 11 rebounds in leading the women's basketball team to a key Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference road 69-58 victory over Manchester University on Thursday.
The victory tied the Grizzlies with Manchester for second place in the HCAC with a 4-1 league record. The team has now won four consecutive games.
Franklin (6-6, 4-1 HCAC) opened the game on a 24-4 run in the first eight minutes.
The Grizzlies shot 53 percent from the floor and made six of their nine three-point field goal attempts to build a 47-22 halftime lead.
DeSutter connected on five three pointers in scoring 19 points. Freshman Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) added 13 points and made three three-point field goals. Junior Lindsey Dall (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) scored 12 points and freshman Mandy Fisher (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) had 10 points to round out the double-figure scorers.
Manchester (7-5, 4-1 HCAC) stormed back in the second half, opening the period on a 21-4 run to trim the deficit to 51-43 at the 12:23 mark. The Spartans got within three points, 55-52, with 5:19 left.
However, back-to-back three pointers by DeSutter pushed the visitors lead to 61-52 with 3:56 remaining. Franklin ended the game on a 14-6 run over the final five minutes.
Manchester's Katie Arterburn led three double-digit scorers with 16 points.
