Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team had four players score 12 or more points in earning an 86-70 victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Saturday in the Spurlock Center. The win improves the Grizzlies to 3-6 on the season and 2-1 in league play.
Junior Lindsey Dall (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) tied a season high with 17 points in leading the balanced attack. Junior Nichole Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) came off the bench to net a season-best 16 points.
Sophomore Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) added 15 points and tied her career high with 13 rebounds. The reigning HCAC player of the week also recorded five blocks, three assists and two steals.
Freshman Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 points and career-high eight assists.
Franklin recorded 23 assists on 30 made field goals in the home victory.
The hosts shot a season-best 50 percent from the floor (30-of-60), including four three pointers.
"We had a good week of practice leading up to the game," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Jennifer Temple. "Our starters and the players coming off the bench did their role. Those contributions helped us put four players in double figures and win the game."
The Grizzlies used a 10-2 run over two minutes to take a 36-23 lead with 3:44 remaining in the first half. The lead grew to 42-26 after a layup from freshman Hanna Ballard (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) at the 2:22 mark. Franklin led 49-32 at halftime, marking the most points the team has scored in a half this season.
In the second half, Dall converted a layup to push the lead to 20 points, 55-35, with 17:10 left. MSJ (1-7, 1-2 HCAC) closed the gap to 57-46 after three-point field goals by Tara Dennis and Heidi McManus at the 14:37 mark.
Nine of Franklin's last 10 points of the game came at the free throw in the final five minutes. The team made 22-of-29 (75.9 percent) free throws for the game.
Freshman Mandy Fisher (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) had eight points and added five assists.
