Crestview Hills, Ky. - Franklin College junior Lindsey Dall (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) scored a season-high 17 points as the women's basketball team lost 42-41 to Centre College in the opening day of the Julie Costello Memorial Classic at Thomas More College.
Centre's Paige Baechle made a layup with 37 seconds left and defended two late Franklin possessions to record the victory. The Colonels (5-1) are receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com national poll.
Franklin (1-4) led 25-20 at halftime and moved on top 33-25 after a three-point field goal by freshman Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) with 12:55 left. Centre answered with a 9-1 run over the next four minutes to tie the game at 34-34. A layup by Michele Judy tied the game for the third time in the game.
Franklin's Dall made a three pointer to give the team a 39-37 lead with 5:30 left in the game. Freshman Mandy Fisher (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) put Franklin ahead 41-38 after a layup at the 4:35 mark.
Centre's Paige Baechle split a pair of free throws on consecutive possessions to trim the deficit to 41-40 with 1:23 left.
Individually, Dall made 7 of 14 field goals for 17 points. She also had five rebounds and three blocks. Freshman Hanna Ballard (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) and DeSutter each added six points.
