Women’s Basketball Loses to Wittenberg 52-50

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team lost a 52-50 non-conference game to Wittenberg University on Saturday evening inside the Spurlock Center.

Amber Rice hit a 10-foot jumper with four seconds left to give Wittenberg (3-1) the decisive two-point edge. Franklin (1-3) sophomore Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) was unsuccessful on a three-point field goal attempt before the final horn.

The Grizzlies led 47-40 with 5:52 following a basket by freshman Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West).

Wittenberg went on a 10-0 run to take a 50-47 lead after a jumper from Taylore Bundy at the 1:29 mark. Franklin answered behind a free throw by freshman Mandy Fisher (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) and a layup by junior Lindsey Dall (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg). The basket tied the game at 50-50 with 30 seconds left.

DeSutter led the Grizzlies with 10 points, while Brewer added nine points and seven rebounds. Fisher chipped in seven points.

Wittenberg made 13 of its 14 free throw attempts and was led by Heather Schroeder with 18 points.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, November 30 against Centre College in the Julie Costello Memorial Classic at Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky.
