Men’s Tennis Loses HCAC Opener

Defiance, Ohio - The Franklin College men's tennis team lost its Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener, falling 6-3 at Defiance College on Friday night.

Junior Ryan Hammer (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) led the Grizzlies with a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles. He won the opening set 6-1 before securing the victory with a 6-4 score in the second set.

Junior Jared Hunt (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community) also recorded a straight-set triumph at the No. 6 singles position. He dropped only five games in earning his first win of the season.

The doubles tandem of junior Evan Pierle (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and junior Robby Woehrle (Avon, Ind./Avon) rounded out the winners with an 8-6 triumph at the No. 3 position.

Franklin returns to action on Sunday, March 16 at 11 a.m. when it travels to Hanover College.
