Men’s Soccer Wins Home Overtime Match against Wabash

Franklin, Ind. - Freshman Antonio Gioe (Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville) scored two goals, including the game winner five minutes into overtime in a 3-2 home victory over Wabash College on Wednesday at Faught Stadium. The Grizzlies earned their first victory of the season.

Franklin (1-3-1) scored two goals in a four-minute span in the second half to battle back from a 1-0 deficit. Gioe scored his first career goal in the 72nd minute to square the match. Senior William Hilgendorf (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) found the back of the net in the 76th minute.

However, Wabash (1-3-1) forced overtime when Geno James scored in the final 80 seconds of regulation.

Then, Gioe made a long run down the left side and beat Wabash goalkeeper Dayton Jennings to give the hosts the victory. The match marked the third straight overtime game for the Grizzlies.

Steve Magura gave the Little Giants a first half lead with a goal in the 17th minute.

Franklin held a 10-9 shot advantage, led by Gioe's three shots. The team also held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Junior Immanuel Jones (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) recorded two shots in the victory.

Senior goalkeeper Lucas Hill (Culver, Ind./Plymouth) made six saves.

Franklin returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 14 at 4 p.m. when it travels to MacMurray College.
