Jacksonville, Ill. - Four first-half goals propelled the Franklin College men's soccer team to its second straight victory, a 5-1 triumph at MacMurray College on Saturday. The Grizzlies now have a 2-3-1 record.
Junior Brandon Iaria (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) found the back of the net in the fifth minute after an assist from sophomore Zachery Shoufler (Fortville, Ind./Greenfield-Central).
The Grizzlies increased the lead to 2-0 when sophomore Thaddeus Broderick (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) scored his first goal of the season in the 17th minute. Sophomore Austin Fundenberger (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and senior William Hilgendorf (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) provided passes to set up the goal.
Later in the first half, Shoufler recorded his first goal of the season in the 22nd minute. Sophomore Jose Cordero (San Jose, Costa Rica/Colegio Metodist) capped the first-half scoring in the 40th minute.
The lead grew to 5-0 after sophomore Sam Camp (Avon, Ind./Avon) scored in the 75th minute from a pass by Cordero.
The Grizzlies had a commanding 29-3 shot advantage, with 16 shots being on goal. Iaria led the team with five shots, while three other players each recorded four shots in the match.
Franklin returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 21 at 3 p.m. when it travels to Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio.
