Men’s Basketball Loses at No. 3-Ranked Illinois Wesleyan

Bloomington, Ill. - The Franklin College men's basketball team lost 83-67 at No. 3-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University on Thursday to conclude non-conference play.

Illinois Wesleyan (10-1) used two scoring spurts to capture the victory. The Titans closed the first half on a 10-3 run to hold a 33-30 halftime advantage. Then, a 10-0 run midway through the second half gave the hosts a 57-44 lead.

Senior Bailey Howard (Nashville, Ind./Brown County) scored 21 points to lead Franklin, now 5-5 on the season. The guard entered the game ranked fourth nationally in scoring at 25.1 points per game. The performance marked the seventh time scoring 20 or more points in a game this season.

Senior Terry Sargent (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) and sophomore Trae Washington (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) each added nine points for the Grizzlies.

Illinois Wesleyan was led by Andrew Ziemnik's 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Titans had four double-figure scorers and shot 53 percent from the floor.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, January 4 at 3 p.m. when it hosts Earlham College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action from the Spurlock Center. The team is 2-1 in conference play.
