Crawfordsville, Ind. - The Franklin College men's basketball team won its 2013-14 season opener in dramatic fashion, earning a 96-91 overtime road victory over Wabash College on Friday night at Chadwick Court.
Senior Bailey Howard (Nashville, Ind./Brown County) led four double-figure scorers with 25 points. He made three three-point field goals and all 10 free throws. Sophomore Trae Washington (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) added 20 points and five assists.
Senior Troy Porter (Frankfort, Ind./Frankfort) had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The forward went 3-of-5 from behind the arc.
Senior Terry Sargent (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) chipped in 15 points to round out the balanced scoring attack.
Franklin (1-0) converted 34-of-40 free throw attempts (85 percent) in the contest. The Grizzlies outscored the Little Giants 34-19 at the charity stripe.
The team overcame a 40-37 halftime deficit. Wabash (0-1) squared the game at 75 following a free throw by Kasey Oetting. Howard missed a three pointer on Franklin's last possession of regulation.
The visitors would score 21 points in the five-minute overtime period.
Franklin returns to action on Monday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. against Centre College in the team's home opener from the Spurlock Center.
