Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College men's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season following a 64-53 home victory over Adrian College on Wednesday inside the Spurlock Center.
Sophomore Dion Smith (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) had a double-double to lead the Grizzlies with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Fellow sophomore Trae Washington (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) had 10 points to also be in double figures.
Franklin made 21 of its 24 free throw attempts, including a perfect 7-for-7 effort by senior Bailey Howard (Nashville, Ind./Brown County). Howard ended the game with nine points. For the season the Grizzlies are making 83 free throws, led by Howard at 95 percent.
Franklin led 30-28 at the half, but scored 11 of the first 12 points to open the second half. A pair of free throws by Selburg gave the hosts a 42-29 lead at the 14:33 mark.
Adrian (0-3) closed the gap to 46-40 following a 6-0 run with 8:41 remaining. However, a three pointer by Washington and a layup by Sargent on Franklin's next two possessions pushed the lead to 51-40 with 6:03 left.
