Offense Sets Records in 55-27 Homecoming Football Win over MSJ

Franklin, Ind. - Franklin College's No. 14-ranked football team set one offensive record and tied another mark in a 55-27 victory over the College of Mount St. Joseph in the 2013 Homecoming contest at Faught Stadium. The Grizzlies remain unbeaten in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action with a 3-0 mark, while being 3-2 overall for the season.

Senior quarterback Jonny West (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) tied a single-game school record with seven touchdown passes. Chad Rupp threw seven touchdowns in a first-round playoff victory over Otterbein during his All-American season in 2008.

Four of West's scoring strikes went to senior Kyle Linville (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) to set a regular-season game record. West found Linville on a 15-yard touchdown score just 28 seconds into the game as the hosts had 21 first-quarter points and held a 48-20 halftime advantage.

MSJ (3-2, 3-1 HCAC) tried to keep pace with the high-powered Grizzlies by tying the game at 7-7 on a 65-yard touchdown pass at the 13:42 mark of the first quarter. Junior Jonny Hession (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) was on the receiving end of a 38-yard score on Franklin's next offensive drive to give Franklin a 14-7 lead.

After leading 14-10 in the first quarter, the Grizzlies pulled away on a 15-yard touchdown pass to senior Joey Pasquale (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) and a 71-yard scoring aerial to junior Zach Cole (Middletown, Ind./Shenandoah) -- the longest offensive play of the season for the Grizzlies. That score gave Franklin a 28-17 lead.

Junior Sam Otley (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) culminated a nine-play drive with an one-yard touchdown plunge in the final minute of the first half.

Franklin's scoring was capped with West's final TD pass of the day, a nine-yard effort to Linville with 10:28 remaining in the third quarter.

For the day, West had 408 passing yards by completing 25 of 38 passes. Meanwhile, Linville had a team-high nine receptions for 142 yards and four touchdowns. Cole and Hession also went over 100 yards receiving in the game. Both had six catches, including one touchdown catch each.
