Louisville, Ky. - The Franklin College baseball team fell to 11-6 on the season with a 14-8 road loss to Spalding University in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening from Derby City Field in Louisville.
Spalding (8-6) broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning to take an 11-5 advantage. Franklin got within four runs, 12-8, after a three-run seventh inning. Spalding answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to halt the momentum.
Senior Scott Windler (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Central Catholic) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. The outfielder was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week.
Juniors Jameson Brock (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) and Mitch Frey (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) and freshman A.J. Schomber (Sunman, Ind./Lake Central) each had three hits. Brock and Schomber joined Windler in scoring two runs in the contest. The Grizzlies recorded 15 hits in the game.
Franklin returns to action on Friday, March 28 at 4 p.m. when it opens a conference series at Earlham College from Richmond, Indiana. Live statistics and video of the game will be available here.
